Is American Dental Insurance Worth it? By NBC News

Image result for images dental tourism

Is dental insurance worth the cost?

You need medical insurance, if only to protect against the cost of an accident or illness so expensive that you could be ruined financially. But do you really need dental insurance?
It’s an interesting question, because you can avoid the most likely causes and expenses of dental problems, decay and gum disease, by brushing and flossing your teeth diligently. But some teeth are more prone to problems, and when they have a problem, the costs can mount quickly.

TIJUANA DENTIST REVIEWS, RECOMMENDATIONS - THE BEST DENTISTS IN TIJUANA for Dental Implants, Oral Restoration, Cosmetic Dentistry - Board Certified Mexico Dental Association

You want the best dentist in Tijuana and affordable prices.

Read this Tijuana dentist review, by consumer healthcare advocate David Mandich for the Board Certified Mexico Dental Association

Tijuana's upscale Zona Rio has fine restaurants, museums, galleries, clubs, first-class hotels, malls, casinos and some of the best board certified dentists in Tijuana.

Here's how to FIND the right Tijuana Dentist certified for your crowns, veneers, dental implants, oral surgery, orthodontics and more!

If you are like most Americans who cross the border daily searching for a Tijuana dentist you want one who is an expert dentist and affordable.

Need a cleaning? You can get that at home but you can't get advanced dentistry in the US for a reasonable price anymore. Dentistry in the US is fast becoming something only the rich (or well insured) can afford with some dental procedures becoming as expensive as plastic surgery.

For the last three years they danced the tango almost every evening, three to four hours a night, somewhere in New York City where they now live. Their tango is unique, in that they come together in a passionate dance dialogue where they exchange lead, in a constant form of improvisation. Their relationship is also unique. HOW TO FIND THE BEST DENTISTS IN MEXICO by the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association

Mexico Dental tourism patients don't have to accept 2nd best!

By Dental Tourism Mexico, Health Care Travel Writer David Mandich

Cabo San Lucas Bay from Pedregal by David Mandich

You have probably heard by now that one can get dentistry in Mexico at substantial savings. Real savings of 50-70% with dentists using the same materials and equipment ordered from the same international dental supply catalogs as your own dentist back home buys from.

But what about the quality of the dentistry in Mexico?

In Mexico quality is problematic and here’s why. General dentists in Mexico untrained in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, root canals etc. can legally attempt advanced dental procedures by practicing on unsuspecting patients.

This situation is the result of less consumer protection laws. It used to be the same situation in the US and Canada decades ago.  But the Mexican government does not get in the way of any general dentists in Mexico who want to learn advanced dentistry the old-fashioned way – by trial and error on their patients (that’s you and me).

What is this pano thing my dentist wants?

Your dentist just asked you for a pano and if you are like most patients, you don't know a pano from pantyhose. And no, it's not some kind of French bread.  We've all had film or digital x-rays taken at least once in our lives, but many patients are unaware of the importance of having a strange new x-ray (since 1985) casually referred to by dentists as a pano.

Panoramic radiographs (aka or tomographic x-ray) show an ear to ear 180 degree view of the patient’s jaws and all the teeth as well as much of the head and neck anatomy.

The machine used is different than the standard x-ray unit as the patient generally stands while the x-ray unit travels on a semi-circular track around the patient’s head.

Dental Tourism Caution Advisory by Board Certified Dentists Internationale'

Board Certified Dentists Internationale tells how dental tourists can avoid their dental implants going sideways after their dental vacation.

By Sandra Jamala

Dental tourism today faces new challenges according to Ms. Carla Helena Sanchez the new Director of Certified Dentists Internationale.

“The expanding dental tourism industry is in danger of getting a black eye with many dental tourism websites and dental travel brokers promoting any dentist who is willing to pay their annual membership fees. The dentist membership fees can cost $1,500us or more per year and generate much valued high treatment patients for dentists in developing nations.

The website dental broker agencies cannot possibly screen the credentials of the 1,000’s of dentists some agencies claim to list.  Consumers are often getting shoddy work from general dentists anxious to bag lucrative treatments by misrepresenting their qualifications to unsuspecting dental tourists.

The Best Mexico Dental Tourism, Dental Makeovers, Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Implant and Full-Mouth Oral Restoration in Mexico - Mexico dental prices, Mexico dentist reviews

Reposted by Dr. Nelson Henry DMD with permission from the Board Certified Mexico Dental Association

Dental terminology can often be confusing to the patient – especially so when ad agencies, and consumer health protection laws in different countries are involved.

Dental Makeover is a general term which is often loosely used to describe either cosmetic dentistry or major work such as a full-mouth oral restoration.

Cosmetic Dentistry encompasses procedures such as crowns, veneers, gum contouring, bondings, inlays, onlays, bridges and plates and even implantology.

Note: Implants are surgery and should only be performed by an oral surgeon or prosthodontist. In the US this in normally the case. However, in Mexico, general dentists can attend an implant manufacturer’s quickie weekend course or worse – a 2 hour dental convention seminar and thereafter call themselves implant specialists.

A Mexico Dental Vacation Will Ease The Pain and Expense of Seeing a Dentist

Los Cabos is a great Mexican dental vacation destination

By About Mexican Dentists.com Staff

US and Canadian dental patients are often in shock when they discover their dental insurance plan will not cover their dental makeover and with the estimate being as much as a nice condo in Cabo or Vegas.

Read on and learn how you can get your dental work done for far less by taking a dental vacation that for major treatment patients. If you are a member of AARP, Baby Boomer or a 50+ senior- this is what you've been dreaming of.

Youth is traditionally equated with strength, beauty, good health and perfect teeth. When we become teenagers - our diet of junk food and poor oral hygiene causes cavities and often periodontal (gum) disease. Often by age 30, teeth can look as though the owners have been chewing on the bottoms of metal garbage cans. Cigarettes, drugs and alcohol abuse worsen the situation. Many people learn about the importance of taking care of their teeth too late and become candidates for cosmetic dentistry work or a full-mouth oral restoration.

Dental Implants, Cosmetic Dentistry by a Board Certified Cabo Dentist for the Cost of a Non-Certified Dentist!

A Board Certified Cabo dentist is who you want for your crown, cosmetic dentistry and dental implants - especially if the cost is the same as for a less-trained general dentist in Cabo.

 UPDATED 5/2016

If you've spent any time in a rich locale-- be it Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, or even a quaint looking southern town with old money -- then you've met people with impossibly perfect teeth. The kind that rekindle images of Justin Timberlake and Hallie Barry.

Big white straight perfect teeth. If you've driven around in these towns, you've probably also seen exteriors (if not interiors) of high-end dental clinics with windows of beveled glass and likely a chandelier or two in the main entry. The old vision of visiting a dentist out of a necessity due to a cavity or root canal has been sublimated by consumer demands for aesthetically balanced teeth, be this in the way of whitening, orthodontia, veneers, or dental implants.

A Board Certified Cabo dentist is your best option for crowns, cosmetic dentistry and dental implants in Mexico

Puerto Vallarta dentists and Cabo dental clinics are prime Mexican dental vacation destinations for 1,000's of American and Canadian dental tourists each year who combine a vacation in a Mexican resort town with having low-cost major dental treatments. According to the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, Mexico dental tourism is the fastest growing segment of the countries tourism industry.

With the growth of the beach tourist resort towns of Cancun, Cabo and Puerto Vallarta; foreign dental tourist patients (most from the USA and Canada) have been increasingly going to these locales for Mexican dental vacations - saving money on major dental treatments such as cosmetic dentistry and dental implants in Mexico while enjoying a world-class vacation for little or no cost.

A cosmetic dental makeover or dental implant by a board certified Cabo or Puerto Vallarta dentist is a fraction of the cost at an Alberta Canada or Dallas dental clinic.

OBAMA HEALTH CARE - Mexican Dentists are Dancing in the Streets

Obama Care Has Mexican Dentists Dancing in the Streets

Dentists in Mexico are dancing in the streets over Obama’s new health care reform bill, as the majority of the treatments received by Americans in Mexico fall within the areas that will continue to be denied coverage by American dental insurance plans such as multiple root canals, crowns and cosmetic dentistry, dental implants and oral restorations. Mexican dentists will continue to enjoy the steady flow of inadequately insured American patients who head south for affordable dental care as they have for decades.

From Wooden Choppers To A Mexican Dental Vacation

By David Mandich -

Over a hundred years ago, most people lost all their permanent teeth by the time they were forty-five if they weren’t already dead from cholera, typhoid, smallpox, influenza, tuberculosis or other killers. The average life span a hundred years ago was only forty-five years. Advances in health care and medicines have increased the average life span to over seventy-five in most industrialized countries.

In the past, a pair of pliers was as common a tool for dentists as as scissors and razors were for barbers. The red and white striped barber pole symbolized blood and sanitation and barbers also pulled teeth. Over a hundred years ago - If you had a really good dentist, you might get a set of wooden teeth made to replace your rotting ones. Anesthesia – was whiskey in the US, tequila in Mexico.

By Tomas Silva - Cabo Dental Patient Adviser for About Mexican Dentists.com

Once upon a time it was difficult to find a certified dental specialist in Cabo San Lucas for larger dental procedures like cosmetic dental makeovers or dental implants as most dentists in Los Cabos are only general dentists who make a living drilling, filling and pulling teeth on locals.

STOP DRINKING COKE! The Good & the Bad Drinks for Your Teeth

Colas aren't the only bad boys on the block.

I recently interviewed Dr. Rafael Ramirez the Cosmetic Dentistry Specialist at Alicia Dental Paradise in Cabo San Lucas. A Mexican dentist, former head of maxillofacial surgery for 16 years at a Mexico City hospital and expert implantologist, he had a lot to say about how different beverages can affect our teeth.

According to Dr. Ramirez: "Recent Studies have shown that dark colas are bad for your teeth. Other studies show that light colored sodas are bad and another study recently proved root beer to be the safest soda of all." Confused yet?

The doctor told me to lay off Coca-Cola – “Poison” were his exact words - and being especially bad for the kidneys. That´s 3 strikes for Coke – strike one for the teeth, strike two for the waistline, and strike three for the kidneys. I haven't had a coke in 8 hours now...

Cabo San Lucas Blown Glass Factories

by David Mandich for the Cabo Free Press

Glass has been made in Cabo San Lucas for almost 25 years. Glass making has been in Mexico since the conquest, with the process known to mankind for over 4,000 years. 2,500 years ago in Mesopotamia, blowing glass bubbles with a tube was invented. The Romans, Venetians, and Muslim peoples all practiced the craft with the Spanish bringing it to the New World in 1535. Among the first Jamestown colonialists were six glass blowers thus establishing the tradition in North America culminating with Tiffany glass as the American benchmark over 100 years ago.

The Spanish created new industries in Mexico that would employ the indigenous people and supply the Spanish empire with saleable merchandise. For example - Chinese blue and white ceramics were ordered copied and the Talavera ceramic industry was created in Puebla. Weaving looms were imported from Spain and commercial textile manufacturing was born using locally grown cotton and native vegetable dyes. Spanish glass artisans introduced glass making to Mexico.

Cabo has two glass factories - Vitrofusion y Arte in centro Cabo (aka The Glass Factory) (624) 143-0120 - and the other located mid-corridor in the Tule area founded by Architect Alfredo Enriques shortly afterwards. Artisans at both factories turn out bodegas full of margarita glasses, pitchers, plates, bowls, tequila shot glasses, wine glasses, Christmas ornaments, and other art and utilitarian pieces daily.

Custom work can be made to order at the glass factories - from colored glass skylights to beautiful dinner sets. When a patient of a dental clinic in  Cabo accidentally broke a white glass porcelain cuspidor on a dental chair, a new one was quickly made at the Glass Factory. Not surprisingly - the new one looked like a margarita glass!

It was made of clear glass with tiny bubbles and had a blue rim. "Patients sometimes do a double-take when they first see it. I just ask them if they want the rim salted or not," laughed the Dentista.

Traditional margarita glasses and pitchers are the factories mainstays given the high demand by cantinas, bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels and individuals. Gift sets are packaged and carried off around the world by tourists. Margarita glassware may be next in Mexico's GNP to Tequila.

People bring in empty glass bottles and exchange them for glassware at the Glass Factory. The artisans recycle the glass into new glass objects - an ecological alternative to creating new glass by heating sand, soda, and lime. Cabo's glass factories have viewing areas where one can safely watch glass work being created by the artisans in front of the roaring hot furnaces. The glass workshops are open for viewing from 8-2 pm with the sales showrooms open until 5 pm.
